The wait is over — Ethiopia season is here, and we’re kicking it off with a showstopper.
Shibru Dube came into coffee later than many producers and, at first, struggled to find a market for
his work. In 2023, on his way to meet a prospective buyer in Yirgacheffe, he was involved in a
motorcycle accident that left him with two broken legs and sharply limited his ability to manage the
farm. Rising cherry prices only made the prospect of investing further in quality more difficult.
More recently, with renewed buyer interest, Shibru has recommitted to specialty production. He now
works alongside his son, Kefyalew, who helps manage the family’s coffee business while also
teaching civics in Addis. What had looked like a stalled project is again being treated as a serious
path forward, one that we’re thrilled to tread along with him.
While it does make for a vibrant and exciting espresso, we'd recommend highlighting this offering on filter brews like a V60 to highlight the clarity and sweetness of the coffee!
