Basha Bekele’s coffees have become some of the most exciting lots coming out of Ethiopia’s Sidama region—and his story is just as remarkable as the cup. A young and fast-rising producer from the Bensa district, Basha has built a reputation not only for quality but for the way his work lifts up his community.
His Bensa washing station brings together smallholder farmers from the surrounding highlands, providing reliable processing, higher premiums for ripe cherry, and a place where neighbors can see their work transformed into world-class coffee. That vision and dedication paid off in a big way when Basha earned a Cup of Excellence win, putting his name on the global stage and highlighting the extraordinary potential of his corner of Sidama.
This natural lot captures everything we love about his approach: intensely sweet fruit character, layered florals, and a clarity that keeps revealing more as it cools. It’s a cup shaped by youthful ambition, community partnership, and a commitment to excellence that shows no sign of slowing down.
